Do you have birthday party facilities? You are welcome to make reservations for a birthday party, but we
do not have a party room. The birthday group joins the session that includes
other children. It is our pleasure to recognize the birthday child with a "Happy
Birthday" ribbon. You may want to consider Crayola Café located in the Crown
Center shops as a place to have your party. Call Crayola Café at 816-435-4128 for
more information.
What do you offer children 5 through 12 years of
age? Kaleidoscope offers independent art
sessions for 5 through 12-year-old children to make their creations while their
adult chooses to watch from the Observation Hallway or work at a specific art
area and encourage all of the children in the session. Our What's Buzzing section
tells you what sessions are available on specific dates.
Do I need to make a reservation for my child? When you are interested in visiting Kaleidoscope and how many
children you are planning to bring determines if you need a reservation. Our
What's Buzzing section will give you more information or you may contact the
Kaleidoscope reservation office at 816-274-8300.
What do you offer for children who have not yet had their 5th
birthday? We offer Family Sessions throughout
the year so that children of all ages can experience Kaleidoscope with their
adults. Our projects are simpler so that the younger children in your family can
be successful creating art at Kaleidoscope. If you happen to visit when we are
offering independent art sessions for children ages 5 through 12, we are pleased
to offer a complimentary art activity sack for your younger child to enjoy in the
Kaleidoscope lobby or in the comfort of your home.
My child has special needs. How can he/she participate in
Kaleidoscope? Kaleidoscope welcomes and
accommodates ALL children ages 5 through 12. Please let us know what your child's
circumstances are so that we can help determine which session would be most
successful for them. We are wheelchair accessible. Please contact us at
816-274-8300 for more information.
Where is the best place to park to visit
Kaleidoscope? More information can be found
here.
Can I go into Kaleidoscope with my child? A limited number of adults (14 years and older) are invited to
volunteer with each independent art session for 5 through 12 year old children.
Volunteers assist all of the children in the session. If you are interested in
helping with the session, please let us know when you arrive or when you make
your reservation. Another option for enjoying Kaleidoscope with your child is
our Family Sessions.
How often do you change your projects or exhibit
space? Children use scrap material from
Hallmark manufacturing to create their art. As certain things run out, we replace
them with something new. Many times children may find materials that relate to a
season or holiday. As far as changing our exhibit space, our staff is constantly
finding ways of improving, enhancing, and upgrading what is currently on
display.
Can I buy recycled scrap from you for my classroom, troop,
church, etc.? Some scrap material from
Hallmark is available for purchase at The Children's Museum of Kansas City. They
can be contacted at 913-287-8888.
Why does Hallmark provide Kaleidoscope? Hallmark, a company whose products are based on creative
self-expression, provides Kaleidoscope as a gift to children for their own
creative self-expression, enrichment and pleasure.
How can I get a job at Kaleidoscope? Kaleidoscope personnel are hired through the Hallmark Cards, Inc.
staffing department. If you would like to learn about job opportunities at
Hallmark, please go to their web site at www.hallmark.com.
What about volunteer opportunities? Kaleidoscope has a force of more than 200 Volunteer Staff
Associates, who encourage the children, prepare materials and assist with
maintaining the exhibit. We are always looking for dedicated individuals age 14
and over who enjoy working with children. Please contact our volunteer
coordinator at 816-274-8408 for more information.
